Cameroon Patient Receives Cancer Treatment in India

When life throws a challenge as tough as cancer, facing it requires courage, hope, and the right medical support. Mr. Edouard Moutebe, a 63-year-old from Cameroon, is an inspiring example of resilience and determination. Diagnosed with stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), he made the bold decision to travel to India for advanced treatment.

Cancer cases are on the rise in Cameroon, with over 20,000 new cases diagnosed in 2020. While liver cancer is the most common, followed by skin cancer and breast cancer, the cases of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) are no less in the nation. NHL is a type of blood cancer that affects the lymphatic system. There are more than 70 types of NHL, and B-cell lymphoma is the most common one. In B-cell lymphoma, the white blood cells known as lymphocytes multiply abnormally and form tumors.

Know the Patient

Patient Name: Mr. Edouard Moutebe

Country: Cameroon

Age: 63 Years

Sex: Male

Disease: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL)

Treatment: Chemotherapy

Hospital: BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi

Doctor: Dr. Sajjan Rajpurohit

The Symptoms and Diagnosis

Mr. Moutebe's ordeal began when he noticed swelling on the left side of his jaw, which made it difficult for him to speak. Concerned, he sought medical help, and a PET scan revealed an aggressive soft tissue mass and multiple lesions in his lymph nodes. A biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of DLBCL, a fast-growing type of blood cancer that requires urgent treatment.

Faced with a serious diagnosis, Mr. Moutebe decided to seek treatment abroad. After exploring his options, he contacted us to arrange his treatment in India.

Treatment at BLK Max Super Speciality Hospital

Upon arriving in India, Mr. Moutebe was admitted to BLK Max Super Speciality Hospital, where he was treated by Dr. Sajjan Rajpurohit, a highly experienced medical oncologist. After a thorough evaluation, Dr. Rajpurohit began an intensive chemotherapy regimen designed to target and destroy the cancer cells.

The treatment included:

  • R-CHOP Chemotherapy: A powerful combination of five drugs—rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin hydrochloride, vincristine sulfate, and prednisone. These drugs are often used to treat B-cell lymphoma.
  • DAR-EPOCH Therapy: Another chemotherapy regimen that added etoposide phosphate to the treatment plan for a stronger attack on cancer cells.

Over six months, Mr. Moutebe underwent seven cycles of chemotherapy. Periodic PET-CT scans were performed to monitor his progress. The results were encouraging: the tumors shrank significantly, and the swelling in his jaw reduced. With the treatment working effectively, Mr. Moutebe regained his ability to speak clearly and felt more confident.
