  • Padma Shri recipient Dr. Ashok Rajgopal is a highly experienced and renowned knee surgeon.
  • He has performed approximately 60,000 arthroscopic surgeries and over 39,000 total knee replacement surgeries.
  • The doctor performed the first minimally invasive joint replacement surgery in India, the first bilateral total knee replacement surgery, and the first virtual total knee replacement using patient-specific instrumentation.
  • He was the first surgeon to use gender-specific knees in India.
  • His educational qualifications include an MBBS from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, in 1974 and an MS in Orthopedics from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, in 1979.
