About Dr. Joy Varghese

Dr. Joy Varghese is a renowned Hepatologist and Liver Transplant Surgeon with over 28 years of experience.
His interest lies in the treatment and management of hepatitis B, hepatitis C, fatty liver, cirrhosis, liver cancer, and performing liver transplantation surgery.
He is one of the pioneers in therapeutic plasma exchange for liver disease treatment.
He completed his MBBS, MD in General Medicine, and DM in Gastroenterology, all from Madurai Medical College, Madurai, in 1996, 2004, and 2007, respectively.
Dr. Varghese further earned a Fellowship in Liver Transplantation from the University Hospital, Essen, Germany.
He was the key contributor to establishing cadaver liver transplant programs across government and private hospitals in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
He has served as an examiner for the National Board Examination in Gastroenterology.
He has published over 60 research articles in indexed journals related to hepatology and liver transplantation and authored book chapters in the field of hepatology.
Dr. Varghese was a member of the Editorial boards of the World Journal of Hepatology and the Global Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
He was a reviewer for various national and international journals.
Dr. Varghese is a member of the Liver Transplantation Society of India, the International Club of Ascites, the European Association of Study of Liver Disease, and the International Liver Transplantation Society.
