Dr. K. R. Suresh Bapu is a neurosurgeon with over 49 years of clinical experience.
His area of expertise is microneurosurgery of brain tumors, aneurysms, and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs).
Procedures such as endoscopic excision of the colloid cyst, endoscopic surgery for pituitary and skull base tumors, total excision of cerebello-pontine angle tumors with preservation of facial nerve, microsurgical excision of spinal cord tumors, neuronavigation and neurophysiologic monitoring during awake procedures for the surgical treatment of low-grade glioma in the eloquent brain, and epilepsy surgery are his forte,
Dr. Suresh Bapu completed his medical education at Madurai Medical College, obtaining his MBBS, MS in General Surgery, and MCh in Neurosurgery.
To enhance his skills and knowledge, he underwent training for microneurosurgery in Zurich, Switzerland, and completed several special training programs in neurosurgery at reputed institutions in the USA and Japan.
Dr. Suresh Bapu was the one to introduce microneurosurgery in South Tamil Nadu and became the first neurosurgeon to perform an STA-MCA anastomosis in South Tamil Nadu in 1984.
As a passionate academic, he is involved in educating and training neurosurgery students. The MGR Medical University, Chennai, awarded him the Best Teacher Award for his contributions.
A highly sought-after speaker, he has been invited to deliver lectures at international and national conferences in Washington, DC, Boston, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, etc.
His research prowess is apparent with his many publications in renowned journals such as the Journal of Neuroanaesthesiology and Critical Care and the Indian Journal of Neurotrauma.
